Junoon in the Hills, Uttarakhand, India
Private villa, nature-walks, village tour, Kumaoni food
All of us at some point in our life have wished to own a house in the hills, even if it is just a small hut or a cottage. The idea of staying in a cottage on top of a hill in the middle of a dense forest, waking up to the chirping of birds, breathing fresh air, eating fresh produce surely entices all of us. The thought itself puts a smile on the face, but we all know reality is harsh.
We may not be able to build and own a house on top of the hills, but we sure can spend a great time at Junoon in the Hills, whose fortunate owner realised his own wish of building a stunning villa on top of a hill and has been kind enough to let out the place to all others stuck in the vicious 9am-6pm circle of corporate life.
Just about 340 kms of a convenient drive from Delhi, beyond Nainital towards Ranikhet is a picturesque village called Darmani. You will need to take a left off the Bhowali – Almora road towards Garampani Bridge and drive another 22kms to reach this magnificent villa. The village has been blessed by the nature and Junoon in the Hills sits handsomely on a hill top. The villa has been built tastefully and a great attention to detail adds charm to the colonial design of the villa.
Each of the six rooms including the guestroom at Junoon in the Hills offers a unique characteristic and style with glass doors and windows opening into the lawn area. The rooms come packed with an attached washroom and changing room with cute little sit-out areas. The drawing room is airy and glass-fronted, opening to a deck with impressive views of the mountains. It is helpful to note that the drawing room also has an electrically heated floor, which helps you face those winter evenings with smile. The glass high wooden ceilings in the drawing room exude opulence as the fire place will remind you of the era gone by. The living room is one level higher than the drawing room and offers a pool table, Wi-Fi, giant TV screen with a viewing area for important telecasts. There is a gymnasium and a massage room too available to all guests.
The villa has spacious outdoor decks and a well-maintained lawn area with lovely Christmas trees and a Buddha statue pulling you to pick a spot and try yoga or practice calm-abiding meditation. The staff at Junoon in the Hills is from the same region and will go an extra mile to assure a pleasant experience for all its guests. It is the much anticipated road trip for couples looking for a perfect escape to the hills and is ideal for family get-together were you rent out the entire six rooms for a couple of nights.
